Congratulations Geni Mack-Laurie for naming the July 1st downtown Williams Lake festival! We will be honouring Geni with fame and special treatment at the downtown festival July 1st. The festival committee all agreed that Four Direction Festival is the perfect name for the biggest downtown celebration of the year!
The name Four Direction Festival references the First Nations wisdom that we are all more than the sum of our parts, and at the same time, we thrive only when our many “parts” are in balance and harmony. Here at Downtown Williams Lake we understand that Four Direction wisdom invites all of us from different cultures, backgrounds and interests to come together as a rich Cariboo Culture that is greater than any one of us on our own, and at the same time, Four Direction wisdom invites us to remember that the well-being of our greater Cariboo Culture is dependent on the balance and harmony of each one of us as individuals. What a beautiful reminder to nurture our family, friends, neighbours and community, and to accept that nurturing when it comes back to us in our times of need.
The fact that our Four Direction Festival will be celebrated on 4 closed-to-traffic streets, facing in the four directions of the compass, just adds to the perfection of this new festival name!
Join us July 1st from 12pm – 9pm to celebrate our Cariboo Culture and each individual within it. You can look forward to
