Kate has a commerce degree from Thompson Rivers University, and a life time of arts-related entrepreneurship to keep her creative.
She has traveled the Americas performing music in original bands and as a cruise ship entertainer/singer. She and her husband, Tom Lehar, owned and operated a music recording studio in Vancouver and then opened another (along with a record label) in Prince Rupert. They volunteered countless hours helping to ignite a music scene in Rupert while creating two community albums there full of songs about Rupert by Rupertites. During that time, the couple also put out an album of their own original music all about Prince Rupert… must be an inspiring place!
Kate has always been interested in entrepreneurship and social enterprise. During her time in Vancouver and Prince Rupert she created and recorded with original bands, owned a licensed cafe, contracted as a website and graphic designer, wrote feasibility reports for social enterprise and managed residential properties. Here in the Cariboo, she and her husband are running a small farm and considering getting back into making and recording original music… their young family has taken their focus away from music as a profession for the last few years.
Community, creativity and inspired action are what keeps Kate motivated. Since starting work with Downtown Williams Lake BIA in late 2015, Kate has met many inspiring entrepreneurs, creatives and community builders. She is enjoying working with all of them to make downtown’s many and diverse Colourful-Cariboo-Culture dreams come true!
