About:
Leanne Kunka, owner of Hobbit House, asked Dwayne to paint a tree into the wall. Dwayne let the wall guide the mural. He soon found himself adding hidden faces and characters. People walking by suggested ideas and Dwayne let all the creative input flow into the mural. A tree grows into the wall, providing shelter for otherworldly creatures. The mural is a perfect metaphor for the way Hobbit House’s café, store and gathering spaces provide shelter for a vibrant community of twinkling souls.
Artistic Notes:
The mural wall is in a tight space, with lots of window. The texture of the wall is clapboard. Dwayne worked with these constraints in an organic way, playing with what space was there and allowing the surface to dictate the feel of an illusive secret garden shimmering just beyond a man-made structure. Dwayne painted this one on his own.
