Location

525 Proctor Street, Williams Lake, BC, Canada

Description

Artists: Tiffany Jorgensen and Sarah Sigurdson

Funded by: Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex

About:

Do you remember going to the pool as a kid?  It is so much more than just a place to swim.  It is a place where your imagination can run wild.  Suddenly, a piece of floating foam is a pirate ship and the lines on the bottom of the pool are sea creatures.  It is a place of connection and pure joy.  The rush you get when the slide opens and you and your friends walk speedily with wet slappy feet to try to get there first.
The pool mural is meant to enhance these adventures and, maybe, even remind us grown ups how to play.
The entire wall is a series of “windows” into the ocean, similar to an exhibit at the aquarium. From the far left, there is a giant clam shell just starting to open with a school of bright fish swirling above, taking our eyes to three playful dolphins peeking into our world.
Below them are the words “Cariboo Strong” carved into the sand.
The far right wall space gives us an opportunity to see “above the water level” where you may notice the recognizable landscape of Williams Lake mountains and sky.
There’s a fox, a mama and baby bear, and a moose, as if they are standing at the glass looking in at the colourful ocean life, following the theme of connection and play.
Artistic Notes:
The Cariboo is connected to the ocean – this mural is just bridging the gap.
